Dreissigacker Legenden

Calling a wine »Legenden« has nothing to do with self-congratulation. Quite the opposite. It is a bow of thanks. »Legenden« is a series honouring the people who have accompanied or inspired Jochen Dreissigacker along the way. A tribute to mentors, icons, heroes and cult figures.

A living legend, according to Wikipedia, is someone credited with a remarkable life story while still alive. But a legend is also a literary form, closely related to the fairy tale and the saga: a glorifying narrative. That is precisely what these wines attempt, to give each one a character that in the end tells its own story.

The fully ripe grapes of this exceptional Riesling come from the oldest vines at Weingut Dreissigacker, planted by Jochen Dreissigacker's grandfather. Deep-rooted in the limestone and marl soils of Rheinhessen, and from the best sites such as the Geyersberg. Picked by hand and laid carefully into crates. Trodden by foot as they once were. The berries then macerate and are pressed with the barest touch of pressure. The wine is left to settle, to sediment and finally to ferment spontaneously. With the cask filled to the top, the Riesling stays on its natural lees for a year, down to next to nothing in residual sugar. It then matures for two more years in magnum.

Pure and unadulterated. No intervention, no treatment.

Made in Rheinhessen by a local joiner in a small, exclusive run. Put together, the two oak elements form a perfect cocoon for the Legenden magnum. Each half on its own serves as a wine cooler for any standard Dreissigacker bottle. Winner of the Red Dot Design Award 2019, the oak wine cooler is a striking piece for special moments with wine.
