Two layers. Three cuvées. One bold decision.
In Dreissigacker Wunderwerk, two completely contrasting Rhine-Hessian vineyards unite to create unprecedented sensory experiences: The single-vineyard cuvées Wunderwerk Riesling, Wunderwerk Grauburgunder and Wunderwerk Spätburgunder. Here, each cuvée harbors the contrasting aromas of Bechtheim's sun and the coolness of the Westhofen vineyards. Only through our patient aging process do they mature into a uniquely complex unity. We have deliberately left behind the purity of the single vineyard to create space for a miracle: extraordinary wines – unconventional and at the same time infinitely harmonious.
Jochen Dreissigacker on Wunderwerk
The Origin of the Wonders
The masterpieces have their roots in two different single vineyards, in soils with their own unmistakable composition, which produce wines with independent – and unique – characters.
The berries of the Bechtheim vineyards Geyersberg, Hasensprung and Rosengarten are allowed to ripen in abundance, saturated with warmth and light, they develop present, complex and powerful aromas. In Westhofen, the harsher microclimate dictates a slower rhythm. Defying the cool winds over Morstein, Aulerde and Kirchspiel, the vines here persistently draw their strength from the mineral soil, later developing Dreissigacker wines with a clear and delicate style.
In line with our conviction, we see ourselves merely as a supporting element while nature does its work. Through conscious yield reduction, we concentrate the special characteristics of the two vineyards in a few berries. This creates wines that clearly showcase their specific origin in individual aromas.
Three Wonders – created by Time
What grew separately, we let mature together at Weingut Dreissigacker. In two years on the lees, a bold approximation first becomes a bond. After several years in the bottle, they develop an inseparable depth. A completely new entity is created. If the fusion had not been dared, the world would have lost something.
In the Wunderwerke, the two contrasting sites unite to form a complex and touching experience. Powerful, without being overwhelming. Expressive, without immediately telling the whole story. At the end of a patient aging period stands a Wunderwerk Grauburgunder that does not claim a pleasing balance, but draws from the harmony of heterogeneous aromas. A nuanced Rheinhessen Wunderwerk Riesling that impresses with diverse fine notes. And a sublime, complete red wine in the form of an elegant Wunderwerk Spätburgunder.
The three varieties of the Wunderwerke collection are enigmatic wines that demand concentration. They want to be discussed. Yet, they are difficult to put into words. Just like a miracle.
