Morstein Riesling – a cornerstone of the 2019 vintage

In 2019, a temperate summer provided us with the ideal interplay of light and warmth. Thanks to moderate rainfall, our deep-rooted vines were always well-supplied with water. These perfect weather conditions, the medium-heavy soils in Westhofen, and our consistent yield reduction laid the foundation for healthy growth and powerful grapes. We carefully designed the canopy to give the grapes time to develop their characteristic refinement. The result exceeded our expectations: ripe grapes that radiated with wonderful freshness. This forms the basis for an exceptional Riesling. To unleash the full potential of this aroma created by nature and craftsmanship, we proceeded with great sensitivity during the winemaking process. We lightly trod the berries with our feet and deliberately macerated them only briefly. Afterward, the grapes were gently pressed in two pressure phases. This ensured that they retained their natural freshness while simultaneously developing their richness and power. We then allowed the wine to ferment 100 percent spontaneously on natural yeasts in stainless steel. Over another year and a half on the fine lees, the wine further developed its delicate acidity, spiciness, and complexity, finally being bottled in the summer of 2021 as a fresh, mineral, yet dense and fruit-driven wine. It has been maturing in the bottle ever since. This exceptional Riesling is the result of careful vine care and gentle winemaking, where every detail has been considered. The year 2019 blessed us with ideal conditions for the vines and grapes, and the result is a wine that reflects the essence of our vineyards and our passion for quality and craftsmanship in every bottle.
