Bechtheim Riesling – the Power of the Soil and Climate

The grapes for the Bechtheim Riesling come from the best vineyards around Bechtheim, whose diverse soils and microclimates form the basis for a characterful local wine. The Geyersberg, Stein, Rosengarten, and Hasensprung vineyards particularly shape this wine: weathered limestone in Geyersberg, loess loam with limestone subsoil in Rosengarten, clay-fersiallit in Hasensprung, and pure limestone in Stein. This geological diversity, combined with Bechtheim's climate, gives the Riesling depth, precision, and expression. To enhance quality, only two grape bunches per vine are left – this concentrates the vine's energy on a few, particularly aromatic berries. The harvest is done uncompromisingly by hand. The grapes are then carefully placed into small uniform containers and brought to the winery. There, they are gently trodden with feet, allowing the juice to macerate with the skins for several hours. Afterwards, the mash is gently pressed in several passes to preserve the full potential of the grapes.
