The Kirchspiel Riesling stands year after year for a cool, focused style: fine, linear, and characterized by pure limestone minerality. The 2015 vintage combines the taut energy of an exceptionally sunny year with the elegance of this east-facing slope. The result is a Riesling that unites clarity, tension, and depth in a precise composition.
Dreissigacker Kirchspiel Riesling 2015 – Precision, minerality, and elegance from a single vineyard
The 2015 vintage was a year of sunshine: over 25 percent more hours of sunshine than average characterized the growing season. High temperatures led to an exceptional concentration in the grapes, while a stable water supply ensured balanced growth. The small berries naturally concentrated the acidity – a rare interplay of ripeness and freshness. In their youth, the wines were correspondingly taut and energetic; today, after ten years, they stand clear, precise, and vibrant.
Kirchspiel is located in Westhofen and ripens about a week later than the Bechtheim sites. The pure east-facing slope receives only the morning sun and rests on pure limestone with skeletal soils. This structure ensures a cool, airy expression that gives the wine its fine, nuanced character. While the Bechtheim sites appear more powerful, Kirchspiel shows itself lighter, more vibrant, and precisely defined in its aromatics.
The 2015 Kirchspiel Riesling presents itself as concentrated and compact, supported by a fine, natural residual sweetness that resulted from an early fermentation stop – a result of spontaneous fermentation with natural yeasts. This slight sweetness gives it a playful, elegant fruit, which harmoniously combines with the clear acidity to create a balanced, delicate interplay.
The aging took place 100 percent in stainless steel, followed by two years of yeast aging. This combination highlights the cool precision of the site and at the same time gives the wine depth and structure. Today, the Kirchspiel Riesling 2015 shows a clear, cool style – with ripe fruit, fine depth, and impressive balance.
